Powerful storms are pounding the Northeast tonight, unleashing torrential rain, flash flooding, and fierce winds reaching 50 mph. Major airports across the region issued temporary ground stops as thousands of flights cancelled or delayed. Causing widespread travel disruptions- ABC News report.

The severe weather erupted late in the day. Sweeping through Philadelphia, New York City, Hartford, and into Boston and New England. Time-lapse video captured the dramatic scene as storm clouds swallowed the top of the Empire State Building.
In Brooklyn, drivers and pedestrians waded through knee-deep water, while rain poured into subway stations just as the evening rush began. Parts of Hoboken, New Jersey, submerged, and flash floods quickly washed out highways around New York City. In Bayonne, first responders seen rescuing a woman and child from a flooded vehicle.
Winds brought down trees across the region. In Queens, one massive tree snapped at the roots and crashed onto a Jeep. “The wind powerful—it felt like a tornado,” said one resident. Downed trees and power lines shut down parts of New Jersey Transit’s coastal line, while in Philadelphia and Trenton, gusts reached up to 36 mph.
Flooding wasn’t limited to city streets. Along the East Coast, the storm system pushed water into coastal areas from New York to North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Where several vacant homes collapsed into the ocean earlier this week.
At LaGuardia Airport, heavy rain and strong winds caused major delays, with more than 1,000 flights cancelled and nearly 6,000 delayed nationwide. Over two inches of rain recorded at the airport—setting a new daily record.
